Welcome Back to The Realignment
Hey everyone, thanks for checking out this week’s edition of the newsletter.
I just got back from the Hewlett Foundation conference mentioned in last week’s newsletter. I’m collecting my thoughts, but next week’s edition will focus on bringing them all together.
As we’re nearing the fourth anniversary of the show, it was good to unplug from the day to day of publishing a twice-weekly podcast and think about from this broader space.
Preview of This Week’s Episodes
I wanted to follow up on last Thursday’s TikTok hearing. Tomorrow’s episode with Adam Kovacevich. Adam is the Founder and CEO of the Chamber of Progress, one of the main center-left industry policy groups.
My take is that when it comes to a TikTok ban or forced-sale, two groups are firmly set in their positions. The Rep. Jamal Bowman and AOC left will oppose. Republicans will demand a ban/sale. Between these two poles is the Biden administration and center-left members of Congress.
Adam Kovacevich is the Founder and CEO of the Chamber of Progress, a new center-left tech industry policy coalition promoting technology’s progressive future. The organization works to ensure that all Americans benefit from technological leaps, and that the tech industry operates responsibly and fairly.
Thursday’s episode takes the show back to its roots. Matthew Goodwin is the author of the forthcoming Values, Voice and Virtue: The New British Politics. Matthew is an academic who also writes a popular Substack.
Our conversation is focused on how the “realignment” framework applies to British politics since Brexit. We also assess how established parties in the UK and US have succeeded and failed to build new political coalitions since 2015/2016 upended the political status quo.
Last Week’s Paid Episode
Last Friday, Saagar and I published our latest Supercast subscriber Ask Me Anything.
If you’d like the free preview, here’s the link. The discussion cuts off right before we answer the week’s questions.
We covered our thoughts on Trump’s 2024 chances, whether an “X” app will ever take off in America, revisiting Saagar’s appearance on Lex Fridman’s podcast, what outsiders don’t know about Washington, DC, and more…

OK... I think this works... I'm a SUPER FRUSTRATED listener.
What the heck is going on here now? You're on Supercast, and now Substack. I've been a paid subscriber since you first went to a premium plan and find your podcasts interesting; so much that I listen to the good ones at least twice.
Now what's up w/ subscription payments and such? Yeah, yeah I know you sent out emails earlier about this junk, but y'know something? I didn't read them closely at the time. Now you don't have any Listener Guidance pages on your Supercast, and I don't see one here. I've also sent you a couple of questions via your AMA ages ago that went unanswered.
SO!
1. Do you now expect me to pay for TWO subscriptions when my renewal comes up at the end of the month?
2. When are you planning on putting a FAQ tab up on your online presence?
I'd appreciate the respect of a reply.
