Welcome Back to The Realignment
Thanks for checking out The Realignment’s Substack newsletter.
If you’re new, hit subscribe to get future issues in your inbox every *Monday*.
Paid subscribers to this Substack receive a subscriber-only newsletter every other *Friday*, alternating with The Realignment’s exclusive AMA episodes.
Hey everyone, welcome back to the Substack.
If you’re looking for a (literally) less buttoned-up episode, I went on my Breaking Points colleagues Krystal Ball and Kyle Kulinski’s podcast, Krystal Kyle and Friends. You can also listen wherever you find your podcasts.
This week, we’re welcoming Marshall Kosloff to Episode 115 of KK&F. Marshall’s pod The Realignment, co-hosted with Saagar Enjeti, covers issues of the country’s political shift relating to mainstream media, national security, economic policy, and much more. We’re thrilled to have Marshall on Krystal Kyle & Friends this week to discuss the latest stories that have interested him and Saagar on The Realignment, what forms of realignment are manifesting in the United States’s political, economic, and social terrain, and why this shift is taking place.
Show Update(s)
Revised Schedule:
The free version of the newsletter now comes out on Monday. Every two weeks, paid subscribers will get an exclusive post.
Every two weeks on Fridays, Supercast subscribers will get a AMA episode with me and Saagar.
The Realignment is reducing from three to two episodes per week.
Back to Basics
By reducing the number of episodes a week, episodes will be more focused on The Realignment’s core theme/area of focus. Publishing 12 episodes a month forced me to book authors/books outside of our scope. The fact that a topic is interesting isn’t a good reason to record an episode on The Realignment’s feed.
As mentioned above, last weekend (along with my birthday) I went on Krystal Ball and Kyle Kulinski’s podcast.
An immediate reaction on my end is the fact that I no longer agree with many aspects of how Saagar and I framed politics back in 2019. From an intellectual honesty perspective, that’s a good thing. Unfortunately, I haven’t updated the framework, meaning my appearances on other people’s podcasts turn into debunking and bad-mouthing contests without a broader takeaway.
Recording 350+ episodes of the podcast has left me with plenty of fodder for the “what’s next?” question.
As I wrap up my current set of guests, my goal this month is to offer that comprehensive frame (which isn’t the same thing as having the *answers*). Doing so will not only make for better content, but will also help the show’s booking.
If anyone has any thoughts/takeaways from the show’s last 3+ years, would love to see the replies in the comments or at realignmentpod@gmail.com.
Last Week’s Paid Episode
Subscribers to The Realignment’s Supercast receive a biweekly Ask Me Anything/discussion episode. Saagar and I answer questions, revisit old interviews, breakdown current events. These episodes are much more casual than a typical Realignment interview.

Reminder Realignment Live Event: Iraq War 20th Anniversary
I was hanging out with a Realignment listener/now friend in Austin last weekend. He works in tech, likes to read, and has a broad interest in politics, foreign policy, and tech (aka, the prime demographic for the show).
One of his laments is that he doesn’t know that many people at work who’re interested in these same topics, or at least want to talk about them beyond the surface level of everyday politics.
This feeling, which I bet many listeners/readers share, is exactly why I’m pumped to kick-off our Realignment Live online events at the end of this month. The first topic is the Iraq War, since this month is the war’s 20th anniversary.
Who is eligible: Paid Substack subscribers and Supercast lifetime members.
What: A Zoom/online meet up for Realignment listeners and I to hangout and chat.
Let us know what you think about this or any other week’s episodes. Please share The Realignment with anyone who’d enjoy the podcast.
