You asked for suggestions for guests for upcoming podcasts. I am a huge reader of Rod Dreher's blog and books. His most recent NYT best seller, "Live Not by Lies" is extremely thought-provoking and a bit scary. Rod would be an excellent guest. Thank you.

The only thing I didn't like about this episode was the lack of explaining on why the centrists for a lack of better term would unite and how would that fit the republican party.

One suggestion...since Avik Roy clearly represents the old alignment around economic issues it would make a better conversation to center the discussion there. Roy’s anti-racism is clearly a device to cover his WallStreet money in a patina of respectability (which makes me think he really is a better fit for the Dems these days) but it would be nice to have him talk less about Barry Goldwaters opposition to Civil Rights and more about his dubious claims about health care costs (its docs, hospitals and pharmacy ability to set their own prices in a “free market” not regulation that is driving high prices) and his schtick on “crony capitalism” (sorry, all capitalism is crony capitalism in the sense that markets inevitably depend on rules and on a substrata provided by govt. that successful firms will derive their success through being able to exploit.) The doctors and hospital lobbies who support Roy’s think tank are the ultimate “crony capitalists.”

One other observation. I was a little puzzled by so much time devoted to the Sister Souljah incident, when Roy was ignoring highly relevant facts such as the big one, that Dems knew they had been not just defeated but blown out in three straight elections and just wanted to win. (There were a series of Arkansas death penalties as well.in 91-92. )They also knew one reason they had lost was too much uncritical embrace of black grievances to the detriment of safe urban areas. Roy seems oblivious to the fact that it was this inability of liberals to punish urban crime rather than opposition to Civil Rights that fueled the conservative movement in the 70s..Also the idea that Souljah was a major political risk for Clinton is laughable. He had already sewn up the Dem nomination in 92 by the "Souljah moment." And blacks had nowhere else to go. Clinton had the chance to show centrist whites he was different than Mondale and Dukakis and he took it.

I guess it's good to have anti realignment guys like Avik Roy on sometimes. Amidst all the fact free conservative cliches on health care (which is Roy's beat I suppose) I did learn that the old GOP evil empire is planning a comeback and is going to pull out all the stops in 2024 to foist Nilki Haley on us. She was the one person Roy mentioned unprompted. Be warned!

Love the show keep it up!

I know you guys mentioned you were skeptical of what Avik said on the last show but is there potential overlap between your brand of conservatism and his. Avik sounded like the real Realignment would occur with the Romneys and the Bidens of the world. Could their be a Realignment with the populists and Avik though? Could a future Republican president have Avik and say Oren Cass on their economic team. I kind of liked his ideas said at the end of that episode. What do you guys think?

Hi guys, really love the work you do!

Was wondering if you guys can do an episode on the foreign policy Realignment within the Republican party at some point. I think that possible guests you could have are Daniel Larison or Barbara Boland, both of whom write for The American Conservative magazine.
