Always great to hear you guys speak with Michael Lind. I enjoy hearing his unique view on culture and politics. I think a guest you should consider is Rick Perlstein, It would be interesting to hear how he sees the current landscape to the conservative movement/realignment he covered in his books such as Before the Storm, and Nixonland.
Michael Lind was a great guest and I'm for sure gonna check out his many books via the Bookshop link! I'm gonna follow Cole's lead here and offer up some guest recommendations as well. One of if not my favorite common thread of the show lately has been the debate over the role of the culture war vs economic policy in determining voting behavior. I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with Jonathan Haidt and his book The Righteous Mind but I think he would be someone that could really add to this conversation. In his book he lays out what he calls Moral Foundations Theory and I think it is a powerful framework that can shed some light on the voting behavior debate. I would argue that it is the best Political Psychology book ever written. Another guest I think would be great is Martin Jacques. I'm sure you guys are already familiar with his work given both of your knowledge on China so I won't go into detail on his work here. Another person I think would be a great guest is Adam Curtis who is a documentary filmmaker. He has created great documentaries such as The Century of Self, The Trap and many others. You guys mentioned in the expanded Q&A that you both aspire to be deep generalists (never heard of the term but love it and can relate) and I think Adam Curtis is just that. In his documentaries he weaves together political philosophy, psychology, history, sociology and a bit of economics to analyze in his words "power and how it works in society" which seems very much in line with the show. Last recommendation is Kyle Kulinski who I know you guys are familiar with. I have a feeling a crossover episode of Krystal, Kyle and Friends and The Realignment would promote both shows pretty well. Just some suggestions, I'll be listening either way. Last thought, congrats Saagar on being featured on Rogan in a way I've never seen before lol. I went to see Rogan's take on the GameStop fiasco via a clip on Youtube just to see he basically copy and pasted your radar lol. Now the real question is when the fuck you gonna get Marshall on JRE with you? For anyone that is also a JRE fan and actually read this long ass comment, here is the link to contact the guest booker for JRE https://www.joerogan.com/contact. If Saagar's gonna do Marshall dirty and not get him on JRE then maybe if a few of us send a booking request Rogan will have him them on together. Joking about Saagar doing Marshall dirty but for real on that JRE guest request. Felt the need to clarify since it's over message lol. Again, love the show, can't wait to see what you guys have coming next for 2021.
